Studying isn’t everyone’s favorite pastime, but it is still an essential part of college and maintaining one’s mental health and sanity against a mountain of coursework.
While some students prefer the quiet to keep their minds focused, others would rather study among a crowd of chattering. It is all about finding an environment that works best for the individual, and step one is knowing the best study spots on campus.
Below are the ideal campus study spots.
1. Helm-Cravens Library
There are many spots to study in the library as there are nine floors to study on, rooms to rent on each floor and a computer lab on the fourth floor.
Additionally, a quiet floor is located on the fifth floor and group collaboration areas are on the seventh through ninth floors.
My personal favorite is the ninth floor of the Cravens Library. It has great views and it is as quiet as the quiet floor most of the time I am up there.
2. Downing Student Union
There are so many various places to study at in DSU, from the three floors to choose from to Starbucks.
Many of the floors have movement flowing through them, the busiest floor is often the first as people grab something to eat, while the least movement and chatter is often the third floor.
Even stopping in Fresh Food Company to grab something to eat while studying at the many tables or going outside on the balconies for some fresh air are options too.
3. The Colonnade
With so much movement throughout campus, a good, refreshing place to study is the Colonnade, located by the Fine Arts Center.
Though it is getting colder, it is one of the best places to study with the warmth of the sun beaming on you or in the nice shade of the FAC depending on where the sun is on that day.
Every time I pass by the Colonnade, I see very few people, so it is a great place if you like the outdoors while ensuring some kind of solitude while working.
4. Jody Richards Hall
From the three floors to the inside of Einstein Bros, there are a good amount of places to study inside Jody Richards Hall.
The building has three floors. My favorites are the second-floor seating area, which has many places to choose to sit and various computers to use, and the seating area outside the JRH auditorium.
It may be busy depending on what time of day you are there, but the scent of coffee and the chatter of many nonetheless also makes Einstein Bros a great place to study.
5. Centennial Mall
With this fall weather, Centennial Mall would be a beautiful place to knock some studying out while being surrounded by nature.
I have only seen a handful of people study there, they have laid down blankets and even put up hammocks to study with. It would be a very magical and unique place to study with the leaves falling and the squirrels running around.
If you get really lucky, you might even see a white squirrel.
6. Your dorm room
The dorm is a great place to study, especially if you enjoy a quiet, homey environment. It offers comfort and being in your own space can boost focus and productivity.
With a wonderful roommate nearby, you can take breaks together, share study tips or chat to relieve stress. Having snacks on hand and your own cozy setup makes studying feel less like a chore and more like a productive, enjoyable experience.
For those who thrive in familiar surroundings, the dorm can truly be an ideal spot to get work done.
7. Residence Hall common areas
If you don’t like being in your room all the time but want to stay near, residence hall study rooms offer flexibility to personalize your study environment while remaining close to home.
You can create a routine that best suits your style and needs, whether you’re preparing for exams or working on assignments.
With quiet spaces, comfortable seating and often a few friendly faces, your dorm hall can truly become your academic haven providing a perfect balance of focus, convenience and a sense of community right where you live.
