WKU Women’s Basketball bounced back from their second loss of the season Friday, defeating the Nevada Wolfpack 80-70.
The Wolfpack used a 20-3 run in the fourth quarter to cut a 21-point WKU lead to just four, but the Lady Toppers outscored Nevada 13-7 halting the Wolfpack’s comeback.
Senior guard Destiny Salary led with 20 points along with another consistent performance from guard Acacia Hayes, scoring 19.
FIRST HALF
The first quarter was a dominating affair, with the Lady Toppers only giving up six points. The score was 10-6 early, but the Lady Toppers scored 15 straight points to end the quarter, led by nine points from Salary.
The Lady Toppers wouldn’t relinquish the lead, taking a 43-24 lead into the break. It was a balanced attack, with seven different Lady Toppers scoring in the quarter, led by five more from Salary.
SECOND HALF
The third quarter was more of the same, with the Lady Toppers tying the Wolfpack in points again. Guard Acacia Hayes took over, scoring 10 points in the quarter to lead the Lady Toppers to a 60-41 lead entering the fourth.
It appeared that the Lady Toppers had the game salted away, but a 20-3 run by the Wolfpack brought the game to a 67-63 Hilltopper lead. However, Salary again took over, scoring five points late to lead WKU to an 80-70 win.
The Lady Toppers will be off for a week before heading to Lexington to take on the 16th-ranked Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday, Dec. 28 at 4 p.m.
