WKU Football secured a commitment Sunday from one of the top passers in the Football Championship Subdivision.
Abilene Christian starting quarterback Maverick McIvor has signed with WKU following three years with the Wildcats according to On3 Transfer Portal Reporter Pete Nakos. McIvor threw for 3,828 yards and 30 touchdowns last season, numbers that were fourth and sixth respectively in FCS.Â
McIvor’s signing comes after starting quarterback Caden Veltkamp transferred to FAU. Along with Veltkamp, quarterbacks TJ Finley and Turner Helton entered the portal.Â
McIvor will reunite with WKU quarterbacks coach Rick Bowie who served as Abilene Christian’s offensive coordinator in 2024. College Football Senior Writer for ESPN Pete Thamel reported WKU hired Bowie as quarterbacks coach on Dec. 31. Â
Head Coach Tyson Helton has succeeded with former FCS quarterbacks on the Hill before. Bailey Zappe made his way to WKU from the FCS ranks. Zappe threw for 5,987 yards and 62 touchdowns in 2021.Â
