WKU Gordon Ford College of Business is holding a naming and logo design competition for the coffee shop that will be located in the college’s new building set to open fall 2025.
Submissions are open to any student in the business college and must be submitted via email to Liz Fogle, marketing and communications specialist for the business dean’s office, at liz.fogle@wku.edu by Friday, Jan. 31. The winning name and logo will be used for the coffee shop and become WKU property.
“From the start, we’ve made it a priority to involve students in the design process of the new College of Business building,” Gordon Ford College of Business Dean Evelyn Thrasher said, “Naming and designing the logo for the building’s coffee shop is another way for students to share their creativity and leave their mark.”
According to an email by Fogle, naming submissions should be a maximum of three to four words, reflect leadership, entrepreneurship and professionalism, and they should not include offensive, copyrighted or trademarked terms.
Logo design submissions can highlight themes like coffee, campus life and business, and they should use colors that compliment WKU’s branding. Logo designs should also avoid intricate details that may not reproduce well, should not include previously published images and should be submitted in high resolution formats such as JPEG, PNG or vector files like SVG or AI.
With their submission, Fogle said, students should include a brief 50-100 word explanation of the concept or inspiration behind the name or logo.
A selection committee including WKU administration, students and faculty will review and evaluate all entries based on creativity, relevance and marketability.
“This building was created with students in mind, and it’s vital that their voices remain at the heat of the process,” Thrasher said.
