WKU Baseball will look to build on its 2-0 record as the Hilltoppers host Lafayette College in a three-game series this weekend.
The Hilltoppers are coming off a series win against Illinois State, which was cut short last weekend due to inclement weather.
The Hilltoppers and Redbirds went to extra innings in the second game, with senior third baseman Carlos Vasquez hitting a walk-off double on Friday night.
Vasquez, other than the walk-off hit, had a great weekend series going 4-8 with two RBIs.
Senior pitcher Treyson Peters is set to start game one. Peters started the first game of the season, pitching four innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out four.
Sophomore pitcher Drew Whalen will take the mound in game two. Whalen started game two against Illinois State, pitching 4.1 innings, allowing two earned runs off of five hits and striking out eight.
Junior pitcher Jack Bennett is set to make his season debut in game three. Bennett had a 6-4 record with a 5.66 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 70 innings in 2024.
Lafayette College of the Patriot League has an 0-4 record with all four losses coming against Southern Mississippi last weekend.
This will mark the first time WKU and Lafayette face each other in baseball.
The series will open on Saturday at 3 p.m., and continue as a doubleheader on Sunday, game times at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. This is a schedule adjustment due to inclement weather.
