WKU Baseball suffered its first loss of the season at Murray State Monday, losing 2-1 on a walk-off single in the 12th inning.
The Hilltoppers batters had only six hits, a season-low for the team, and struck out 15 times, a season-high.
The Hilltoppers pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts but allowed six hits, five walks and hit three batters.
WKU scored first in the third inning after senior Carlos Vasquez lined out to right field allowing senior Caleb Marmo to score.
Murray State tied the game in the ninth on a fielderโs choice with the bases loaded, bringing in the runner from third and sending the game to extra innings.
The Racers won the game on a single to right field in the 12th inning. Before the hit, the Hilltoppers dropped a pop-out and threw a wild pitch that advanced the runner to second.
The Hilltoppers record now stands at 5-1
WKU will return to Nick Denes Field Tuesday, Feb. 25 to play Eastern Kentucky at 3 p.m.
