WKU and the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) reaffirmed a transfer agreement Thursday morning to support and ease the process for students transferring to WKU.
Plans for the agreement began in 2021, WKU President Timothy Caboni said, and included strategy development and expansion of WKU’s transfer advising program and services.
“We spent years working through that pathway to eliminate barriers, to make it less difficult, more easily done, remove all of that friction to transfer,” Caboni told the media after the signing.
One part of that process, Caboni said, was offering financial aid.
According to a press release, students from the 16 KCTCS schools will have access to transfer scholarships up to $4,000.
“If you do well in your first two years at the community college, there’s a guaranteed transfer scholarship for you when you come to WKU, ensuring that the support you have with KCTCS continues during your time here,” Caboni said.
According to Caboni, WKU only had agreements like this one with the university’s closest partners, but this reaffirmation expands to include all 16 KCTCS schools.
“So that really expands this and sends the message to all 16 community schools that we’re a place for their students to come,” he said.
The agreement also provides a more seamless approach to transferring academic credits between schools, KCTCS President Ryan Quarles said.
“Today’s agreement builds upon many previous transfer agreements to make sure that there’s an assurance that if a student finishes that associate’s degree with us, that those credits will seamlessly transfer towards their completion of a baccalaureate degree at WKU,” Quarles said, “And that’s a fancy way of saying that we’re removing obstacles.”
This agreement doesn’t just impact KCTCS students. According to Caboni, WKU brings in about 1,300 transfer students a year, including transfers from other four-year universities in Kentucky and institutions in surrounding states.
This agreement, Caboni said, makes the whole process of transferring – including documentation and credits – a “seamless” process.
Students can learn more about the transfer process through the newly updated WKU Transfer Center, located on the second floor of DSU.
