WKU Baseball will host the UNC Asheville Bulldogs in a four-game series March 7-9 at Nick Denes Field.
The Hilltoppers are coming off a 15-4 run-rule victory at Tennessee Tech University Monday. Every WKU batter got a hit in the game.
The top of the Hilltopper lineup continued a great season at TTU. Seniors Carlos Vasquez and Ethan Lizama and junior Ryan Wideman combined for six hits and four RBIs against the Golden Eagles.
Senior Treyson Peters is set to start the first game of the series. Peters has a 5.14 ERA, has allowed 13 hits and tallied 14 strikeouts in 14 innings. Peters pitched the first game of the series against Central Michigan University last weekend. In the game, he gave up two earned runs and struck out six batters in 5.1 innings.
Sophomore Drew Whalen is taking the mound in the second game. Whalen has a 3.14 ERA, has allowed batters 13 hits and has struck out 25 in 14.1 innings. Whalen pitched the second game of the CMU series, giving up six hits and striking out nine in five innings.
Junior Jack Bennett will start game three. Bennett was named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week after his stellar outing against CMU, where he threw seven scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while striking out seven.
The starting pitcher for game four will be announced.
UNC Asheville enters the weekend with a 6-6 record. The Bulldogs dropped their midweek matchup against Pitt, 8-1, but are coming off a weekend sweep of Stonehill College, outscoring them 30-17.
The Bulldogs have been run-ruled twice this season, the first coming against Tennessee in a seven-inning 29-4 loss. The second coming against UNC Wilmington in a seven-inning 13-1 loss.
The series will start on Friday at 3 p.m. The series will continue on Saturday as a doubleheader, game times at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. The series will close on Sunday at 1 p.m.
