We’ve all been there: It’s 2 a.m. Your coffee is cold; your textbook is still open to the same unread page, and the exam is creeping closer. You need help — right now. That’s where CramBetter comes in.
With 24/7 tutoring for WKU math and science classes, you’ll never feel lost and alone while studying again, said Steven Keys, a physics tutor and co-founder of CramBetter.
Richmond senior Abby Brewer used CramBetter for her biophysics II class in the fall of 2024.
“My mom saw the ad and said, ‘Hey, you’re struggling in this class, why don’t you try it,’ and I said sure, why not,” Brewer said.
Brewer initially struggled in the class and received a failing grade on her first exam. But after using CramBetter, she saw real results — her second exam score increased by 30 percentage points to a B.

CramBetter currently offers study guides, short explanations, practice exams and video solutions for 13 WKU courses in physics, chemistry and calculus. The material contained in each CramBetter course matches the contents of WKU syllabi, ensuring that students are prepared for their exams. Steven Keys said that all of the company’s courses are designed by their team of experienced tutors.
“All of our tutors have a master’s degree in their field and a minimum of eight years of teaching experience,” Keys said.
CramBetter offers bite-sized videos from easy-to-understand tutors that are designed to cover WKU’s class contents more efficiently.
“What your professor covers each week, we try to condense down into about an hour. It’s the stuff you really need to know for the test,” Keys said.
Brewer added that CramBetter doesn’t just give students answers — they guide them through the process of problem-solving, ensuring that they truly understand the material.
She tried another tutoring platform, Chegg, earlier, but she said it didn’t help her fully comprehend the material.
“I was just getting answers, not how to actually solve the problem,” Brewer said.

CramBetter also knows that academic struggles don’t follow a 9-to-5 schedule, Keys said. Whether it’s a midnight cram session or an early morning study sprint, their expert tutors are ready whenever a student is.
“If you have trouble making it to on-campus tutoring during specified hours — we’re available 24/7,” Keys said.
Brewer said that CramBetter offers direct access to your tutor in the comments section of every video, and they typically respond same-day, often before the next class.
“By the time you have your next class — they’re faster than that,” Brewer said.
In addition to live tutoring, CramBetter provides detailed study guides, practice exams, and video solutions to reinforce what students have learned. Brewer found the follow-along study guides which are paired with each lecture to be particularly helpful.
“They’re very visual and very pleasing to the eye, and that helps your brain remember the content being taught,” Brewer said.

To help students prepare for big exams, CramBetter uses a variety of available resources to create course-specific test prep that corresponds with WKU course curriculum, Keys said.
“We look at syllabi, past exams, lecture notes, and things like that to make sure our materials match up with what’s going on in each class,” Keys said.
Keys said that since campus tutoring times don’t work for everyone and private tutors are expensive, CramBetter wanted to offer a better option. That’s why they offer a flat-rate subscription with 24/7 availability for $40 per month, giving students complete access to the course of their choosing at any time of day.
“Private tutors can cost as much as $200 an hour, and they’re not always available when you need them,” Keys said. “We wanted to address both of those concerns, so we developed this as a more affordable, convenient and accessible alternative.”
Brewer emphasized that for students in certain fields, grades impact their post-graduate applications, and they would especially benefit from CramBetter’s services.
“Pre-physical therapy, pre-med, pre-physician assistant, pre-any kind of health profession — your grades matter on your applications,” Brewer said.
Keys said the company focuses on students pursuing engineering degrees as well.
Beyond academics, Brewer said that CramBetter also provides a fun learning environment that makes studying less painful.
“They also like to throw in jokes during their lectures — that’s kind of their thing,” Brewer said.
Brewer said that she recommends CramBetter to as many people as she can and shares the importance of receiving help for tough classes.
“Those stressful classes are so hard to get through,” Brewer said. “Anything to make it a little bit easier — it’s worth it.”
