WKU Baseball will host the UT Martin Skyhawks in a three-game series March 14-16 at Nick Denes Field.
WKU is coming off a midweek 21-2 run-rule win over Southern Illinois Tuesday night. The Hilltoppers are undefeated at home with a 15-0 record and a 16-1 overall record which is the best start in program history.
Junior Ryan Wideman had a terrific game against SIU. Wideman hit for the first cycle in program history and went 4-6 with nine RBIs, including a grand slam in the third inning.
Senior Treyson Peters is set to start game one. Peters has a 3.66 ERA, has allowed 15 hits and tallied 19 strikeouts in 19.2 innings. In his last appearance, Peters pitched 5.2 innings, kept Central Michigan University to two hits, issued five walks and struck out five batters.
Sophomore Drew Whalen will take the mound for game two. Whalen has a 3.15 ERA, has allowed 18 hits and has 32 strikeouts in 20 innings. Whalen went 5.2 innings, allowed two earned runs off of five hits and got seven strikeouts in the second game of last weekend’s series against CMU.
Junior Jack Bennett is taking the ball for game three. Bennett has a zero ERA and 16 strikeouts in 18 innings. Bennett started the third game against CMU going six innings allowing five hits, four unearned runs and four strikeouts.
UT Martin of the Ohio Valley Conference enters the weekend with a 6-9 record. The Skyhawks lost their midweek game against No. 23 ranked Auburn, 6-1. UT Martin also lost its weekend series last weekend against Samford, getting outscored 38-11 across the three games and getting run-ruled in the first two.
The series will start on Friday as a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. and game two starting 30 minutes after game one. The series will close out Sunday at 1 p.m.
