Western Kentucky University infielder Maci Masters (30) enters a tunnel of her teammates celebrating after hitting a homer during a game against the University of Kentucky at the WKU Softball Complex on Saturday, March 1, 2025.
WKU Softball built on its momentum from its first Conference USA series win Tuesday, defeating Lipscomb University 8-3.
After a scoreless first inning, freshman second baseman Charlotte Herron’s RBI single put the Hilltoppers on the board in the second.
A tame three-inning stretch had no runs from either team.
The scoring drought came to a close in the sixth, as both teams earned multiple runs.
In the top of the sixth, an RBI double from Herron, a sacrifice fly from sophomore shortstop Morgan Sharpe and a two-RBI homer from senior catcher Randi Drinnon put the Hilltoppers up 5-0.
Lipscomb responded with an RBI single and a two-RBI double in the bottom of the sixth. The Hilltoppers led 5-3 going into the final inning.
Sophomore first baseman Annie White put the game away with her three-RBI homer in the top of the seventh. Lipscomb couldn’t connect on the other end, leaving the Hilltoppers with an 8-3 victory.
WKU will take its two-game winning streak into a CUSA series at Kennesaw State University April 4-6.
