The Potter College of Arts & Letters (PCAL) will host a celebration of life for late communication professor Heather Strode on May 6, beginning at 5:30 p.m., in the Honors College and International Center, Room 2011.
Strode passed away on Dec. 31, 2024, and was a communication professor at WKU for 22 years. Strode worked as a leadership and volunteerism coordinator with the Department of Student Activities at WKU before her work as a professor.
The event will begin with words from faculty and staff who worked closely with Strode, followed by a reception.
A slideshow with photos of Strode submitted by faculty, staff, students and alumni will also be presented at the event. Photos can be submitted here.
“Professor Strode was a cherished member of PCAL and the WKU community,” Luna said. “We hope that this event will support those who are grieving from this immense loss.”
Jessica Luna, communications and events specialist for PCAL, said in an email that faculty and staff will speak and recite poetry during the event.
A scholarship fund has also been created in Strode’s memory. This fund will assist “deserving students” in obtaining a higher education, according to the College Heights Foundation website. Fund donations can be submitted here.
“We look forward to sharing fond memories and stories of Professor Strode’s warmth and kindness with the campus community,” Luna said. “We want this event to spotlight and honor the impacts she made.”
