Marc Rardin – CUSA Head Coach of the Year
In just his third season on the Hill, Head Coach Marc Rardin became the seventh Coach of the Year in Hilltopper history and the first in 16 years. Rardin arrived at WKU in June 2023 following the Hilltoppers’ 18-36 2022 campaign. In his first season, he led the Hilltoppers to a 33-26 record, their first winning record since 2011, excluding the 2020 season, which was shortened due to COVID-19. In his second season, the Hilltoppers went 33-22, marking their first consecutive 30-win seasons since 2010-2011.
Rardin’s third year on the Hill has been his most successful by record, guiding the team to a 42-12 overall record, the best in program history. WKU’s 30-3 home record set a program record for home wins, also standing as the best home record in Division I college baseball this season.
Under Rardin, the team earned the No. 2 seed in the CUSA tournament, the highest CUSA seed in program history. The Hilltoppers earned national recognition this season as they climbed as high as No. 17 in the Baseball America poll. Rardin became the second-fastest coach to reach 100 wins at WKU after a series sweep at Liberty, behind Joel Murrie (1980-2005).
Dillon Napoleon – CUSA Assistant Coach of the Year
Pitching Coach Dillon Napoleon played a key role in WKU’s resurgence right beside Rardin, becoming the first coach to be named CUSA Assistant Coach of the Year in program history. Napoleon arrived at the Hill after three years beside Rardin at Iowa Western Community College. The Hilltoppers’ team ERA improved from 5.99 before Napoleon arrived to 5.02 and 5.05 in his first two seasons.
Napoleon’s third-year staff has been his best, posting a 3.28 team ERA, the second-best in the nation. The staff includes 11 pitchers with a sub-3.00 ERA, with their best performance coming in the series against No. 17 (now No.18) Dallas Baptist, holding DBU to just eight runs, earning the Hilltoppers an 11-0 shutout win in the process.
WKU’s award-winning players and coaching staff will now turn their attention to the Conference USA Tournament, where the No. 2 seed Hilltoppers open play Wednesday against No. 7 seed New Mexico State in Lynchburg, Virginia. First pitch set for 11:30 a.m. CT. Fans can watch the game on ESPN+
