Grise Hall will receive a chiller system to temporarily replace the building’s HVAC system, which experienced critical failure on May 16 due to basement flooding caused by extreme weather.
The chiller is currently being installed, with the goal to be functional by the end of the month and will be used until the end of the cooling season in November, Chief Facilities Officer Bryan Russell said.
The trailer holding the chiller will be fenced off and a temporary sidewalk will be constructed.
“Our team is actively exploring permanent solutions, which may include purchasing a new switch with an estimated lead up time of up to 12 months, replacing the chiller with either new or used equipment, or refurbishing the existing switch if feasible,” Russell said.
Eaton Corporation, an electrical and industrial management company, has evaluated these options and WKU facilities will continue to assess all long-form solutions, Russel said.
Russell said Planning, Design and Construction and Department of Facilities Management teams are currently working closely with Gordon Ford College of Business leadership for a plan moving forward.
Faculty and staff from Cherry Hall are planning to move to Grise Hall for the 2025-2026 school year due to upcoming renovation plans for Cherry Hall.
Faculty and staff currently in Grise Hall are set to move into the new Gordon Ford College of Business building at the end of July.
