WKU Provost Bud Fischer announced via email on Tuesday the implementation of a new accreditation framework for all WKU classes.
The new framework, the Kentucky Graduate Profile (KGP), was created by the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE). CPE oversees and monitors academic quality, affordability and student success in all postsecondary institutions in Kentucky, its website states.
Fischer said that the KGP is part of the Quality Enforcement Plan that was accepted by the accreditation group, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
KGP outlined 10 skills to implement into courses that “provide structure and coherence to the college experience,” according to its website.
- Communication
- Critical thinking
- Quantitative reasoning
- Effective interaction
- Adaptibility
- Professionalism
- Civic Engagement
- Collaboration
- Knowledge application
- Decision making
WKU has been given until spring 2028 to implement KGP, Fischer said. If WKU fails to implement KGP it “will be prohibited (from) proposing any new academic programs,” Fischer said.
Fischer said no Colonnade courses will be added or revised as of Oct. 1 for this academic year.
Planning for KGP’s implementation has begun, Fisher said.
“WKU has a KGP workgroup that includes representatives from each Academic College,” Fischer said. “The Student Experience component is already integrating many of these skills and using the Suitable App to track student engagement.”
