The WKU Symphonic Band will perform a collection of classic compositions spanning two centuries of musical history.
The concert will start at 7:30 p.m., Friday, in Van Meter Hall. General Admission tickets will be sold at the door for $10 the night of the concert.
The performance will open with the “Zampa Overture,” the introduction to Ferdinand Herold’s “Zampa,” which premiered in 1831.
The band will be joined by WKU Professors of Voice Liza Kelly and Jeremy Kelly for the performance of solos from Georges Bizet’s “Carmen,” first performed in 1875.
The ensemble will then also be joined by Adjunct Professor of Voice Jennifer Hondorp for selections from the “Phantom of the Opera” (1986) and “Les Misérables” (1980).
The band will also perform the pieces “Mambo” from “West Side Story” (1957) and “A Simple Song” from “The Mass” (1971), both composed by Leonard Bernstein.
The concert will conclude with selections from the 1978 TV Musical “The Wiz.”
