Blanco Brown brought “trailer trap” to WKU Tuesday with a pre-game concert on South Lawn.
Brown headlined this year’s pre-game concert before the football game against Florida International University. Brown’s concert featured some of his original music, covers of various country songs and remixes of 2010s hits.
For this year’s concert, the university worked with an artist agency to help put together a list of performers that would be a good fit for this year’s pregame concert, said Jace Lux, WKU spokesperson, in an email with the Herald.
“Then feedback was solicited from student groups to see which artist they were excited about,” Lux said. “Blanco Brown stood out, largely due to his mix of musical styles and his energetic live performances.”

Some students had different opinions on Brown’s performance.
“The university needs to start giving more of a say to the students about who comes and who is able to if they’re going to spend money on somebody,” said junior Carrington Coppinger.
She said that she thinks the pregame performer should be someone students, faculty and the Bowling Green community would enjoy, since she didn’t think there was a big turnout.
“This is a lot less turnout than it has been in previous years for things such as Flo Rida and DJ Diesel,” junior Hayley Barton said.
Brown sang several of his songs, including “You’re Incredible,” “As Good As It Gets,” and “Ghett Ol Memories.” Throughout his songs, he walked through a fenced-off walkway in the middle of the crowd, giving high fives and taking pictures.

Brown’s performance also consisted of covers of various country songs, such as Chris Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey” and “Don’t Take the Girl” by Tim McGraw.
During his rendition of Lee Brice’s “Roses,” Brown entered the crowd, handing audience members roses, taking photos and singing along with students.
“I think it was a great concert,” said junior Rylee Abbott. “I feel like a lot of people are upset about him coming, but I think that we should all appreciate them putting time and effort and money into us having a concert.”
In between his songs, Brown shared personal memories connected to some of his songs. Before closing the night off with his single that made the U.S. Billboard’s Hot 100 in 2019, “The Git Up,” he shared a story about how a traumatic motorcycle accident had shaped his musical inspiration.

“Lord, I listened to the breathing machine and started to make tracks in my head, and I rocked myself to sleep,” Brown said. “I just want to say, when God is in your life and He intervenes in a way that shines through you, that shines through other people, there’s no way in hell you stay down. You gotta get up.”
Blanco Brown’s DJ concluded the night with “So to WKU, y’all go hard, y’all go crazy.”
