NEW SUPPORT GROUP: Tackling Racism within White Circles

2:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday September 9 & 23, October 7 & 21, November 4 & 18

The Counseling Center understands in order to achieve racial equity, awareness, and understanding, White students (and faculty and staff) need to begin to make changes within themselves and their White circles.

This group is for students, who identify as White, who are ready to reflect on their Whiteness, examine ways they benefit from White privilege, and explore their internalized racism that leads to the continued discrimination, bias, and oppression of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color). We will review the historical construction and present-day perpetuation of White supremacy culture. We will discuss how to interrupt racist behavior and systemic racism.

To help endure and persevere in the anti-racist journey, self-awareness and self-care techniques will be taught and practiced. Participants will be expected to engage in homework such as readings, mindfulness exercises, and viewing short videos between groups.
