College Heights Herald

The College Heights Herald is the main source of news for Western Kentucky University, its more than 16,000 students, plus faculty, staff, alumni and others interested in the WKU community.

The College Heights Herald publishes:

  • An email newsletter that goes to more than 33,000 addresses every weekday during the fall and spring semesters, and weekly during the summer and winter breaks.
  • A website updated 24/7 at WKUHerald.com, one of the first college news outlets online and among the very best in the nation.
  • A print edition news magazine three times a semester that focuses on topics of intense interest in the WKU community — with content that has not appeared elsewhere before.
  • Social media that connects with students, faculty, staff and alumni like no other source can do.

Student journalists are responsible for all content decisions under the direction of the student Editor-In-Chief, who can be reached at [email protected], or at (270) 745-5044. The students work with an adviser, Carrie Pratt, [email protected], but all decisions are their own.

The Herald has consistently been named one of the best student-run news organizations in the country. It has won the National Pacemaker Award, the top honor for a student-run publication, 21 times — its first was in 1981 and the most recent were in 2022, for the print edition and the website. A member of the Associated Collegiate Press Hall of Fame, the Herald recently was named as No. 6 on the list of the 100 most successful student media outlets as measured by the ACP College Pacemaker Awards, which were first given in 1927.
