Freedom Walker’s Justice for Breonna Taylor Protest: Photo Gallery

Francisco Serrano, a candidate for Bowling Green City Commissioner, speaks to the crowd of Black Lives Matter supporters in Circus Square Park on Sept. 26, 2020. Serrano included a personal connection in his speech by reflecting back on 5-year-old Burt Brumett who was killed in a car accident on Scott Way here in Bowling Green in the 80s. Brumett’s mother fought tirelessly to have a stoplight placed in that location but to no avail resulting in the death of Serrano’s cousin who was hit by a car in the same spot on March 30, 2016. “Change did not happen for their family and for this community,” Serrano said, “At the end of the day these are our lives we are fighting for.”

The BG Freedom Walkers organized a peaceful protest that took place Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020, in Circus Square Park in the wake of the indictment of former Louisville Metro police officer Brett Hankison on three charges of wanton endangerment on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2020. The event featured speakers such as Dr. Lacretia Dye of Western Kentucky University, Francisco Serrano and Carlos Bailey, who are both currently running for seats on the Bowling Green City Commission. Dana Beasley-Brown also spoke. Beasley-Brown is a current member of the City Commission and is running for re-election this fall.
