John Anderson, Metro Nashville police officer and 2013 WKU graduate, died last Thursday in Nashville when his vehicle was hit by another car and caught on fire.

Anderson’s car was struck by a Ford Fusion driven by 17-year-old Jayone Brown who is currently being held in a juvenile detention on a number of charges including vehicular homicide by recklessness, according to multiple news reports. When Anderson’s car was hit, it spun out of control, hit a utility pole and then caught on fire, which killed Anderson, according to a WNKY article. He was headed to assist another officer with a pedestrian on the interstate when he was hit.

Brown was fleeing another officer’s traffic stop for a lane violation when the accident occurred, according to an ABC News article.

Anderson graduated from WKU with a bachelor’s degree in recreation administration. During his time at WKU, Anderson was a Student Explorer with WKU’s Police Department, according to an article by WBKO.

Anderson began serving with the Nashville Metro Police after his graduation from their police academy in 2015. Anderson also served on the Drill and Ceremony Team, which honors officials killed in the line of duty, according to an article by the Tennessean.
