A prolific game by senior guard Don McHenry Saturday led WKU Men’s Basketball over Kentucky Wesleyan 91-71.
McHenry led all scorers with 29 points on 50% shooting. It’s his third straight game with 25 or more points. The Conference USA Player of the Week scored 19 points in the second half, including a dazzling step-back ankle breaker in which he was fouled, but still knocked down the three.
In an offensive showcase, WKU scored 45 or more in both halves and held the Panthers to 30 points in the second half, pulling away. The Hilltoppers shot 49.3% from the field in the game, 45.9% in the first half and 53.1% in the second half.
Senior guard Braxton Bayless added 18 points and five rebounds, while freshman guard Julius Thedford scored 17 and grabbed six boards.
Senior forward Tyrone Marshall Jr. scored 10 of his 13 points in the second half. He combined with McHenry for 29 of WKU’s 45-second chance points.
The Hilltoppers shot 13-31 from beyond the arc and outrebounded KWC 13-9 on the offensive glass. Despite shooting 51% from the field in the game, the Panthers turned the ball over 20 times, 14 being Hilltopper steals. WKU only turned the ball over six times in the game, with McHenry and Bayless having no turnovers
The win is the Hilltoppers’ sixth in a row with their last loss being Nov. 26 against Kentucky.
