WKU basketball’s Red vs. White scrimmage on Friday featured two 30-point scorers, an overtime period and six 3-pointers from Moustapha Diagne.

The highlights of the afternoon were sophomore guard Taveion Hollingsworth, who had 31 points, eight rebounds and four assists, and freshman center Charles Bassey, who had 30 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks.

“It’s clear that this is a work in progress,” Stansbury said. “There’s some good and some bad. It’s pretty obvious that we have to get better.”

Bassey dominated the action for the White team in the first segment. He led all scorers with 20 points in the period and 14 points in the first 11 minutes. He finished the 42-minute scrimmage with 30 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks.

Bassey dominated in the post, scoring time in and time out. He also had a big impact on the defensive end, with two of his blocks coming in the same defensive possession.

“The biggest thing for Charles, he has to continue to play himself into shape,” Stansbury said. “Continue to shift another gear, energy-wise every possession. When you bring him out and press him a little bit, that will help that.”

Hollingsworth’s 31 points led all scorers for the full scrimmage. Sophomore guard Josh Anderson also impressed with 23 points and 12 assists. One of the biggest standouts of the afternoon was redshirt junior Moustapha Diagne. Diagne finished the scrimmage with 23 and went 6 for 9 from 3-point range.

“Right now, pretty comfortable,” Diagne said. “Especially when it’s going in. Obviously I’ve been in the gym working on my shot, so I’m feeling really good with it.”

With the conclusion of this scrimmage, the Hilltoppers’ next order of business will come on Oct. 30 when they host Campbellsville for the first of two exhibition games.
