Hilltoppers elevated to No. 27 overall recruiting class, Bassey ranked No. 6

The newest member of Rick Stansbury’s solidified 2018-19 roster gave the Hilltoppers a significant boost in recruiting rankings.
WKU’s 2018 class is currently ranked as high as No. 27 in the nation after 5-star 6-foot-10-inch center Charles Bassey’s commitment and re-classification on Wednesday. Bassey is now ranked as the No. 6 overall player in the 2018 class by 247 Sports. WKU’s class is ranked 27th by 247. Bassey is rated as the No. 18 player by ESPN.
WKU’s incoming freshman class features Bassey, three-star point guard Jeremiah Gambrell, power forward Galen Smith and four-star point guard Dalano Banton.
The next-best player in WKU’s 2018 class, Banton is a 6-foot-6-inch guard from Redemption Christian Academy in Massachusetts who also reclassified from a 2019 prospect to become a college freshman in 2018. Banton is ranked 86th overall in the nation by 247 Sports.
WKU is also adding transfers to bolster the roster, including graduate transfer Desean Murray from Auburn, junior Trevelin Queen from the New Mexico Military Institute, redshirt sophomore Carson Williams from Northern Kentucky and junior Matthew Horton from Shelton State Community College.
