The Kentucky Board of Student Body Presidents will host its annual Rally for Higher Education at the State Capitol in Frankfort on Tuesday, Feb. 6.

The rally will begin at 10:30 a.m. on the North Steps of the Capitol. A primary point of emphasis for the attendees will be to advocate against significant budget cuts to higher education funding.

“I hope that when state officials see students coming together and hear their concerns they realize that these students, their constituents, are aware of the potential situation we could find ourselves in,” Eastern Kentucky University student body president Laura Jackson said in a press release. 

The Board of Student Body Presidents is comprised of student body presidents from Centre College, Eastern Kentucky University, Kentucky State University, Morehead State University, Murray State University, Northern Kentucky University, University of Kentucky, University of Louisville, Western Kentucky University and two students representing the Kentucky Community and Technical College System.

Northern Kentucky University student body president and Kentucky Board of Student Body Presidents Chairman Sami Dada will give an introductory speech before students from across the state speak about advocating for higher education funding.

Each of the institutions participating will then meet with their local state legislators following the rally speeches.

“My hope is to have our message heard and for the state legislature to understand that higher education is important to Kentucky’s future and we are the future of Kentucky,” Dada said in the release. “When you invest in the minds of Kentucky students, that value will last for generations.”
