A Prom Story

Kerri and Alan Wells have known each other for more than 30 years. Despite their intellectual and developmental limitations they chose to marry and have been together for about 11 years. For four years the couple has attended the Jesus Prom at Hillvue Heights Church, an inclusive night where WKU students, and members of the community with and without disabilities come together to dance and feel like royalty for a night.

“The fact that this involves a lot of Western students and a lot of people without disabilities as well,” said Alan’s mother, Darlene Wells, “I think it’s important for individuals with disabilities to not just be separated and do things for themselves, but to be included.”
