After leading WKU to two Conference USA victories and defeating a ranked opponent for the first time since 2009, senior forward George Fant was named Conference USA Co-Player of the week Monday. Fant shares the honor with Louisiana Tech senior guard Raheem Appleby after averaging 21 points and 12 rebounds in the two outings.

Fant has now recorded four-straight double double performances including two last week– one against Charlotte with 18 points and 11 rebounds and another against No. 25 Old Dominion with 24 points and 13 rebounds.

The preseason selection to the All-Conference USA team shot 58.3 percent from the field and was 14-20 from the free throw line. Fant also was one of the main reasons WKU recorded their two lowest turnover margins the past week as he only committed one turnover in 69 minutes.

“George is a monster, he is the best 6’6 post player I know. I see him do this everyday in practice,” sophomore guard Chris Harrison-Docks said. “When he does this, it’s kind of expected. He’s a great player, he’s one of our leaders and we depend him to do things like that, without him we are not in that game.”

Fant joins senior guard T.J. Price and freshman forward Justin Johnson as Hilltoppers who were named to Conference USA weekly awards as Price and Johnson won Co-Player and Freshman of the week after defeating Ole Miss on the road.

WKU has now won five straight games and nine of its last 11 after starting the season 1-3. The Hilltoppers will travel to Florida this week for a pair of Conference USA foes. WKU will face Florida Atlantic and FIU before traveling home to face UTEP and retire Courtney Lee’s jersey.
