October 26, 2013
After 30 minutes of play, WKU is leading Troy 20-10.
Sophomore quarterback Nelson Fishback got the start at quarterback. He finished the half 2-for-3 for 12 yards.
The Toppers got on the board first with a five-minute opening drive that ended in a field goal. The Toppers forced a punt on the next possession.
The Trojans got their first points of the game a few minutes later. After starting on the WKU 41-yard line, Troy settled for a 41-yard field goal at the 6:11 mark in the first quarter to tie the game 3-3.
Junior quarterback Brandon Doughty entered the game on the next drive after Fishback started 2-for-3 for 12 yards. Doughty drove down the field, completing one pass for 28 yards, but lost the ball on a fumble in Troy territory.
The Trojans scored on the ensuing drive on a one-yard run from running back Jordan Chunn to take a 10-3 lead.
Doughty was back under center for the next drive and was efficient, moving the offense to the one-yard line before senior running back Antonio Andrews punched it in on fourth down with 10:43 to go to tie the game at 10-10.
Doughty finished the half 15-of-23 for 196 yards.
Andrews continued to stay on point for the remainder of the half. He helped lead the Toppers to another touchdown on the next drive thanks to a four-yard pick-up on another 4th-and-1 run — WKU took a 17-10 lead after a three-yard scoring run by sophomore running back Leon Allen with 3:30 to go.
The Toppers scored another field goal as time in the half expired to go to the locker room with a 20-10 lead.
Andrews is leading the Topper runners with 53 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown. He has also led WKU through the air, with four catches for 68 yards. Junior wide receiver Willie McNeal has five catches for 37 yards.
The second half will begin after WKU wraps up its Homecoming ceremonies. Troy will get the ball to start the half.
