Grammy-award winning ensemble Chanticleer came to Van Meter Thursday night as the last performance of this year’s Cultural Enhancement Series.

The a cappella ensemble, called “the world’s reigning male chorus” by the New Yorker magazine, performed “The Siren’s Call.”

The performance included such pieces as “Non sono in queste rive,” composed in 1609 by Claudio Monteverdi and “Versa est in luctum,” set by Juan Gutiérrez de Padilla in the 1600s.

Lawrenceburg sophomore Emily Hardin-Lynch said she attended the concert as part of a requirement for her African-American experience class.

“I liked how it had no instruments, the a cappella is really cool,” she said.

Burkesville freshman Scout Monday came as part of a music appreciation class.

“I thought it was interesting because I didn’t know that people still did concerts like this,” Monday said.

Radcliff freshman Lonnie Gaskins also attended the concert as part of a music appreciation class requirement.

“I came to check it out, and I actually kind of like it now that I’m here,” he said. “The harmony and how they all sung together, that’s what I really like.”

The Cultural Enhancement Series will begin it’s next season this fall, and will include guests such as urban-Latino band Ozomatli, and theoretical physicist Dr. Michio Kaku.
