November 25, 2012
A WKU student was shot to death after a party in Louisville early Sunday morning.
Louisville senior Cheryl Williamson was involved in an argument with two men after the party ended at about 3:30 a.m. She was shot in the chest as a result, reported Louisville community activist Christopher 2X told The Courier-Journal.
A bystander took Williamson to University Hospital, 2X said. Surgeons were unable to save the 24-year-old and she was pronounced dead at about 5:30 a.m.
The incident is being investigated as a homicide, said Louisville Metro Police spokesman Dwight Mitchell.
WKU students mourned her death on social media networks with the hashtag “Have Hope.”
WKU’s Office of Diversity Programs is planning a memorial service when students return from Thanksgiving break next week.
The Courier-Journal reported that Williamson’s family members will address her death at 3:30 p.m. EST Sunday.
