October 27, 2012
The Lady Toppers ended regular season play on Friday with a 1-1 tie against Middle Tennessee.
In the 18th minute, the Lady Toppers scored when junior Sydney Sisler made a shot from 25 yards out. MTSU countered in the 55th minute, also scoring off a kick from 25 yards out.
MTSU entered the game as the third ranked team in the nation. The Lady Toppers are the only team this year in conference play to hold them to only one goal.
The Lady Toppers enter the Sun Belt Conference Tournament as the fourth seed.
The Lady Toppers will face Arkansas State for the first round of the tournament, which begins Wednesday. WKU defeated ASU earlier this season 2-0. Senior forward Amanda Buechel scored both goals for the Lady Toppers.
Coach Jason Neidell said he thinks WKU can play with any team in the Sun Belt
“I feel really good going into the tournament,” Neidell said. “Unfortunately, we’ve stubbed our toe a couple of times in conference play, but we’re up there with the top teams.”
If the Lady Toppers win, they will face either MTSU or North Texas, who they defeated 2-0 on senior day.
The tournament will be held at South Alabama and they Lady Toppers are scheduled to play at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
