Funeral services for former professor Harrison are Saturday

WKU alumnus and former professor Lowell H. Harrison, 88, died Oct. 12, 2011, in Owensboro.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home in Bowling Green with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until the service on Saturday, also at the funeral home.

Anyone who wishes to do so can make a contribution to the Lowell H. Harrison Scholarship Fund through the College Heights Foundation.

Harrison graduated from WKU in 1946 with a major in history. He also earned his M.A. in 1946 and doctorate from New York University in 1951.

After teaching at NYU and West Texas State University, he joined WKU’s history department in 1967.

While at WKU, he was elected to the Board of Regents twice and served as a graduate adviser.

Harrison retired from full-time teaching in 1988, but taught part-time until 1994.

During his career, Harrison published 115 articles and authored several hundred book reviews. He was elected to the WKU Hall of Distinguished Alumni in 1999.
