Tuesday marks the last day to sign up for fall Student Government Association senate elections. Applications are online and can also be found in the SGA’s office located on the first floor of DUC.

SGA elections are set for next week, starting on Sept. 20 at 12:01 a.m. They continue through Sept. 21 at 11:59 p.m. Votes will be cast through Topnet.

Chief of Staff Katie Stillwell said that as of now, there are officially six spots available. Four of these spots must go to freshmen so the class can be as well-represented as others.

More spots may become available if senators elected last spring decide not to participate in SGA after all.

“I’m excited to see if it’s a contested election or not,” said David Spalding, chief justice of the Judicial Council. “That’s something we’ve been trying to promote.”

SGA President Billy Stephens said that this should be one of the bigger fall elections WKU has had. He expects about 30 students to run.

Senate election winners will be announced at midnight on Sept. 21 — following the Cage the Elephant concert SGA is co-sponsoring — in DUC 123, where there will also be a party to welcome newest senators.

Stephens also said that those who run and don’t win should not be discouraged. He said he would love to get them involved in SGA in some other way. Those people can contact Stephens to find out what ways they can get involved.
