Warren County Library to collect winter items for BRASS
December 10, 2010
The Warren County Public Library is collecting hats, mittens, scarves, ear muffs and coats once again for its annual Mitten Tree, said Amy Helm, human resources manager at the Warren County Public Library.
The library will be taking collections until Dec. 30, she said.
They have been collecting items since Dec. 1, Helm said.
She said that the drive this year has been successful so far.
The Mitten Tree is a Christmas tree that will be decorated with the items donated, Helm said.
The tree is in the library’s lobby, she said.
Helm said they decided to name the tree the Mitten Tree after the book “The Mitten Tree” by Candace Christiansen.
She said all of the items collected will be donated to Barren River Area Safe Space, where items will be distributed to adults and children in need of winter clothes.
BRASS is a non-profit regional domestic violence shelter that provides emergency shelter, housing assistance and children’s services according to its website.
“Our tree at the main branch is full, and our tub has just been emptied,” Helm said. “We are starting another tub for incoming donations.”
Donations are accepted at all Warren County Public locations.
