Six expected to sign during NCAA’s Early Period

Six letters of intent are expected to arrive in the WKU men’s basketball offices during the NCAA’s Early Period, which begins Wednesday and runs through Nov. 17.

The Toppers’ 2011 class has earned national attention, as it was at one point ranked among ESPN’s top 25 classes and is now listed as a team “on the cusp” of the top 25.

The accolades are much in part due to a verbal commitment from Cezar Guerrero, a four-star Rivals.com point guard from St. John Bosco (Calif.) High School. Guerrero is ranked 61st in the latest Rivals.com 150, which also lists WKU commit Derrick Gordon at No. 135.

Gordon has confirmed that he will sign his letter of intent and send it as soon as possible. Nigel Snipes, a three-star small forward from Marietta, Ga., also told the Herald he will sign on Wednesday.

George Fant, a three-star power forward, will hold a signing ceremony at Warren Central High School at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Vinny Zollo, a forward at George Rogers Clark High School, said he will ink his letter during a signing ceremony at 2 p.m. Friday.

Guerrero and Deng Leek, a three-star center from Weslyan Christian Academy (N.C), are the only two WKU commits that hadn’t confirmed they would sign immediately as of 2 p.m. Tuesday. But the two have said in previous interviews that they intend to sign during the Early Period.

After the Early Period, the next chance for recruits to sign is the NCAA’s Regular Signing Period, which runs from April 13, 2011, through May 18, 2011.
