The Bowling Green Coalition of Active Neighborhoods sponsored the Fall Rally of Neighborhoods tonight at Parks and Recreation to introduce the community to this fall’s city commission candidates.

Brian “Slim”Nash and Bruce Wilkerson are running for re-election.

New names on the ticket this year are Mark Bradford, Robin Baldwin, Bill Waltrip and Jerry Wells.

About 50 people attended the forum.

At the forum, candidates were presented with pre-submitted questions, then given three minutes to provide an answer.

Nash said the question-answer format makes the candidates think on their feet.

“It’s an absolute benefit,” he said. “The people set the agenda and we can reach throughout the whole community.”

Topics covered included the creation of more jobs in the city, a joint city-county government, the adoption of a city-wide smoke-free ordinance and more development of greenways and sidewalks.

Bowing Green resident Sara Seidler said it was her first time attending an event such as this, but she was happy with what she heard.

“These things are a good chance to meet candidates and hear their opinions on a variety of topics,” she said.
