Lounge aims to boost BG nightlife with ‘Shore’ star
September 17, 2010
Get your spray tans and poufs ready, because this Friday, the “Shore” is coming to Bowling Green.
Tonight, the Lava Lounge will host MTV reality-show star Angelina Pivarnick for an evening of fist-pumping, contests and partying.
Pivarnick is a cast member on the “Jersey Shore.”
Doors will open at 9 p.m., and General Manager Jeff Lobb said he expects a big crowd.
“VIP will be available, but Angelina will be hosting all the events, so everyone will absolutely have a chance to meet her,” he said.
Lobb said this party will be a change from the current nightlife that offers little variety for students.
“We have a university with 20,000-plus students,” he said. “One thing we really lack is a student party scene, and my plan is to go after the college crowd.”
Glasgow senior Leslie Barnes said she would like to go to the party but can’t because of work.
“It’s exciting and fun that a celebrity is coming to Bowling Green,” she said. “I’m sure it’ll be a crazy night.”
Karrie Cash, the volunteer coordinator for the event, said beer pong, cornhole, a Guido/Guidette look-alike contest and fist-pumping beats, provided by DJ Baker, will make the night “different than any other party.”
“We want everybody to have a good time, not just come out and stand around,” she said. “We’re doing things that no one else is doing, and it’s a good way to get people to interact.”
Cash, a senior from Edmonson County, said she hopes events such as this one will help to build Bowling Green’s reputation to make future events bigger and better.
“We put a lot of work in,” she said. “We want to bring different stuff in so we can offer a variety of interesting things for college students.”
Pivarnick will be available for autographs and photos, Cash said.
“Bring your camera,” she said.
There is no dress code for the evening, but “don’t come looking skanky,” Cash said.
Desmond Bell, co-owner of the Lava Lounge, said the night is a preview of the Lounge’s new style.
“The town has been missing the college feel as far as nightlife is concerned,” he said. “So we’re trying to make it real fun. Everybody’s going to be rocking out.”
Drink specials for the night include $1 drafts and $6 pitchers.
