Commission reviews first reading of an ordinance for new fire codes

The Board of Commissioners met tonight and listened to a first reading of amendments to a zoning ordinance.

If approved, the ordinance would require new fraternity and sorority houses built in the city to maintain certain fire safety codes.

However, the ordinance will not be enforced for residential houses, new or existing.

Other points of discussion at the meeting:

-There was an unanimous vote to close the two alleyways off of Old Morgantown Road.

-Some Bowling Green residents spoke to the commission about fixing the intersection at Circle Avenue and Clagett Avenue. Changes would include extending the pavement to get rid of the island and adding new stop signs to slow down traffic in the area.

The next Commission meeting will be on Oct. 5.
