The prospective future leaders of the Student Government Association will have an opportunity to share their concerns with students this afternoon.

A debate between SGA executive office candidates will be at 4:30 p.m. today in the Downing University Center second floor lobby.

The SGA elections will be Tuesday and Wednesday.

Bulan junior Jessica Martin and Henderson junior Nick Todd are this year’s presidential candidates.

Louisville junior Anna Bisig and Radcliff sophomore Katie Dawson are running for executive vice president.

Jackson junior Josh Collins and Evelina Petkova, a junior from Bulgaria, are running for administrative vice president.

The debate will be moderated by Brandy Warren, editor-in-chief of the Herald, and Herald sports editor Danny Schoenbaechler.

Many of the candidates are preparing for today’s debate by looking over issues dealing with student concern.

“I just want to let them know that I’m here for the students, no matter if I’m president or not,” Todd said.

Martin said she hopes students come away more educated about the candidates in next week’s elections.

“That’s how people find out what you’re about is through the debate,” she said.

Dawson said the debate should be interesting, but she doesn’t know what to expect.

“I feel versatile enough that I could give competent answers,” she said.

Collins said he is looking forward to both expressing his opinion and hearing what other candidates think about different topics.

He said he hopes the debate will promote an exchange of ideas and information.

Petkova said students will be able to learn who is the most qualified candidate while at the debate.

Bisig could not be reached for comment.

SGA President John Bradley said students should come to the debate to learn more about the difference between the candidates.

“I feel we should all make an educated decision on the 16th and 17th about the future of SGA,” he said.
