4 great spots in Bowling Green to satisfy late night cravings
October 20, 2021
We keep odd hours as students. Sometimes you have to cram for exams the night before, or you must race against time for those pesky 11:59 p.m. deadlines. The problem is that hunger stops for nothing, even our important collegiate endeavors.
As a night owl, procrastinator and foodie, I am fully qualified to tell you where and what to eat after typical business hours. Here are my top five places to get a late-night snack in Bowling Green.
#1 – Cookout
There should be no surprises that this is number one. Cookout is known for being an affordable late-night option with a vast menu. From onion rings to milkshakes, Cookout makes me proud to be an American. Submit that essay with a smile and some greasy grub.
Recommendation: For the best value, I recommend the $5 trays. You get an entree, two sides, and a drink. I usually get the corndog tray with a chicken quesadilla and fries.
#2 – Great American Donuts
Whether you’re a fervently loyal GADS customer or not, there is no denying that donuts anytime is a good thing. Take a study break to sit down in this cute retro store and have some sweet dough, you won’t regret it. I recommend getting a few extra for breakfast the next day. Your sleepy future self will thank you.
Recommendation: Strawberry or blueberry cake donut. They are obviously the best ones.
#3 – Waffle House
Waffle House is here for you, don’t worry. Diner comfort food hits the spot when you can’t sleep from stress. Also, it will not tell you when you can and cannot have breakfast! This sit-down restaurant has fast service, so you can get back to work ASAP.
Recommendation: Texas Bacon Egg & Cheese Melt
#4 – Hucks
After the pandemic hit, many grocery stores, including Walmart and Meijer, are no longer open 24 hours. Sometimes you have a hankering for chips or candy at 3 AM, and these grocery chains let us down. Fortunately, the gas station, Hucks, is still open all night long for your prepackaged cravings.
Recommendation: Candy, Slim Jim, a 32 oz soda. The basics.
