Upcoming vision board event planned to empower youth for Martin Luther King Jr. Day
January 13, 2022
An “I Have a Dream” vision board event for Martin Luther King Jr. Day is being held on Jan. 17 at 2:30 p.m. as both an in person and virtual event for grades 3-12.
The in-person location is Broadway United Methodist Church, 1323 Melrose Street, and the virtual option will be run via Zoom.
The event will provide a space for youth in grades 3-12 to visualize and map out their dreams and plans for the future. It will also feature a motivational speaker and group leaders to guide the event and encourage participants to discuss their hopes.
According to the website, “Vision board events have been used as a means for an individual to consider their goals and begin to lay them out for them to see.”
Poster boards, glue sticks and scissors will be provided free of charge for in-person participants. Some magazines will be available as well.
Magazine donations for the event are being accepted through Jan. 14 at two locations. Light of Chance, Inc. on 527 State Street from Tuesday to Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m. and Broadway United Methodist Church, 1323 Melrose Street, on Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. are the dropoff locations. Magazines must be appropriate for grade 3-12 readers.
