WKU Men’s Golf finishes 16th in Badger Invitational

WKU Men’s Golf began its 2022-23 season with a 16th-place finish at the Badger invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin on Sept. 11-13. The three-day invitational was played at University Ridge Golf Course.
The Hilltoppers shot 17-over in the first round of the tournament to position them in 17th place as a team. WKU shot a cumulative 305 in the first round.
Junior Connery Meyer led the team after round one. Meyer recorded five bogeys throughout the first 18 hole round, but recovered with five birdies to card an even par of 72. He stood tied for 24th for the day. Meyer finished the second round 4-over with a 76.
Senior Luke Fuller improved his play the second day by seven strokes, finishing with a total two-day score of 151 (79, 72). After taking three bogeys and one double bogey, Fuller fought hard to keep his round alive by also recording five birdies.
Fifth-year senior Landon Carner also dropped his score from his first round of 79. He turned in a score of 78 the second day for a total tournament score of 157.
WKU moved up one spot on the leaderboard after the final round to tie the University of Maryland in 16th place out of a field of 18 teams. The Hilltoppers finished with a complete score of 299 for the second day of the invitational. Finishing with a two-day total of 604, WKU placed above South Dakota State University by two strokes.
The Hilltoppers’s season is young and the team will have many opportunities to climb the rankings before the conference championship in the spring.
The Hilltoppers will return to play in the JT Poston Invitational, hosted by Western Carolina University in Sapphire Valley, North Carolina, from Sept. 26-27. Individual results can be found below:
