WKU Women’s Basketball fought in Lexington Saturday but ultimately fell to the 16th-ranked Kentucky Wildcats 88-70.
Senior guard Alexis Mead led the scoring with 18 points, and it was a total team effort, with four Lady Toppers scoring 10 points or more.
FIRST HALF
The Lady Toppers kept it close in the first quarter, trailing 17-13. The Lady Topper defense was dominant, racking up three steals in the first period. Senior guard Alexis Mead led the way with five points, and guard Acacia Hayes added four.
The second quarter looked promising for the Lady Toppers early, down 21-20 with the ball. However, the Wildcats took over, outscoring the Lady Toppers 17-7 the rest of the way. Mead led the way with four points in the quarter.
SECOND HALF
The bottom fell out in the third quarter, as the Wildcats outscored WKU 28-21 to take an 18-point lead into the fourth quarter. Mead continued to dominate, scoring five points in the third.
The Lady Toppers fought back in the final quarter, outscoring the Wildcats early on, but the Wildcats were too much as the Lady Hilltoppers fell 88-70. Hayes led the charge with five points, and Mead continued her incredible performance with four more.
The Lady Toppers will look to rebound at home against the Liberty Flames Thursday, Jan. 2, at 7:30 p.m.
