WKU Women’s Golf travelled to Simpsonville, Kentucky for the NCAA Louisville Regional.
The team ended the three-day event in 11th place with a score of 40 over par. The Lady Toppers season concludes at Regionals for the second straight season.
The Louisville Regional happened in conjunction with five others across the country. The top five teams and best performing player on a non-qualifying team from each event will move onto the national championship competition in Carlsbad, California.
Auburn University finished its stint at Simpsonville with a score of -17, which secured its first place spot. The Tigers will be joined in Carlsbad by Houston University, the University of Arkansas, Iowa State University and Ole Miss University.
Indiana University’s Sherdian Clancy scored a -9, and she’ll head to compete for the NCAA individual championship.
Round one teed off at eight in the morning on Monday. The Lady Toppers ended the first round four over par, which tied them with IU for 10th place.
Freshman Leah Edwards ended the first day tied for 18th place. Four birdies brought her to a score of one under par.
Edwards continued to lead the Lady Toppers in round two, which she finished with an even score. Despite a good performance, Edwards dropped to tied for 23rd place.
The Lady Toppers finished day two 18 over par, bringing their total score to 22. The team fell to 11th place while the Hoosiers remained in 10th.
Senior Sydney Hackett ended round three as the Lady Toppers’ best performer. Despite golfing nine over par on day two, Hackett ended round three with an even score. Edwards golfed seven over par on day three, which caused her to fall 17 places in individual rankings.
WKU ended the tournament without a large impact. The team performed exactly to its seed placement.
Edwards tied for 40th place in individual rankings. She finished with a six over par. Hackett tied for 47th with nine over.
Freshman and Conference USA individual title winner Regan Ramage finished the tournament 11 over par, which tied her for 52nd. On hole four of round three, Ramage golfed one of the only eagles at the regional.
The NCAA Championships will begin on Friday May 22 and last until Wednesday May 27. The thirty teams and six players will compete at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa’s North Course in Carlsbad, California.
