WKU Football fans were given a reason to celebrate Tuesday.

Star graduate quarterback Austin Reed announced he will be returning to WKU next season in his final year of eligibility.

This announcement came as a surprise as Reed entered his name in the transfer portal last week. This Tuesday however, Reed decided to withdraw his name from the portal to remain at WKU.

WKU’s athletic communications department released a statement from Reed to announce his decision. The statement read “I’m back.  -16-.”

Reed had begun to draw interest from many power five schools, including Louisville, after a very impressive season. Reed was top four in the nation in both passing yards and passing touchdowns this season.

Despite the attention from other schools, due to his strong performance, Reed ultimately decided to stay in Bowling Green.

A local realtor firm may have played a part in Reed staying in Bowling Green. HanksHomesBG and Reed revealed Tuesday that they are teaming up for an NIL deal.

After Reed announced he would be returning to WKU, the Hilltoppers leading receiver, sophomore Malachi Corley, also announced he will also be returning next season.

With both Reed and Corley returning, the Hilltoppers figure to have another season with an explosive offense.

The Hilltoppers play in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl to cap off the 2022 season on Dec. 21. Reed playing in the game was in question, with him planning on transferring, but now it looks as though Reed will be playing.
