WKU Feminist Student Union holds period products drive

The WKU Feminist Student Union is holding their second Period Products Drive throughout the month of April.

FSU is collecting menstrual and personal hygiene products for Barren River Area Safe Space, an organization that provides aid and opportunities for those who have suffered from domestic violence.

Communications major and vice president of FSU, Ariel Powers, said they raised $400 and donated 45 products to BRASS during their first drive of this kind last year.

“It was really successful for our first year,” Powers said. “We realized that we wanted to give back to the community as much as we could.”

Last year’s drive was held in March for Women’s History Month, but FSU decided to hold it in April this year due to spring break.

Powers said they decided to expand the donations this year to more than menstrual products. They are now accepting individually wrapped snacks and hygiene products like shampoo, conditioner and bar soap.

“We asked BRASS if there was anything specific we could add, and those were their suggestions for us,” Powers said. “There has been lots of expansion of our club and what we can do as a campus to help our community.”

Donation boxes can be found on the first floor of DSU and the second floor of the Commons.
