The Lady Toppers hosted Louisiana Tech Thursday night at the WKU Soccer Complex, where they out the Bulldogs 1-0. This was a must-win conference game and WKU got it done, earning three points in conference play.
“It feels fantastic because tonight was a really pivotal game for postseason seeding and the opportunity to make the conference tournament for both teams coming into the game,” Head Coach Jason Neidell said. “We just wanted to defend our home turf.”
WKU’s lone goal was scored by graduate Ambere Barnett in the 15th minute, her 2nd of the season and 20th of her career. Barnett now needs one more goal to tie a program record for 8th most goals of all time. Graduate Katie Erwin assisted the goal, giving her three on the season and 13 for her career. She is now tied for 9th most assists in program history.
The offense for The Lady Toppers put the ball in the net, but it was the defense that completed the game. Once again it was another masterful performance by sophomore goalkeeper Maddie Davis. She notched another clean sheet and five saves in the game, giving her 43 on the season. This helped the Lady Toppers earn their 7th shutout of the season.
The Lady Toppers will look to build off this momentum as they end the week in Huntsville, Texas with a road matchup versus the Sam Houston Bearkats Sunday.
