The WKU Department of Theatre and Dance will host “Last Chance to Dance” on Friday, Dec. 1 and Saturday, Dec. 2 at Russell H. Miller Theatre.
Russell H. Miller Theatre is located on the second floor of the Ivan Wilson Center for Fine Arts.
The concert is described as “informal” and is a showcase of students in the choreography courses sharing their original work.
“Joined by other emerging choreographers in the Dance Program, the students present a variety of dance genres and inspirations,” the Fine Arts Box Office stated. “This informal concert gives our students an opportunity to see their work come to life onstage!”
The program proves to be memorable for the students involved.
“I have incredible memories of dancing under student choreographers who boosted my confidence and solidified my feeling of belonging in the program,” junior Shannon Maloney said, as posted by the dance program’s Instagram. “Last Chance to Dance is my opportunity as a choreographer to give other students this same experience.”
Maloney is a dancer in “How it feels to belong for a moment” by Lindsey Simpson, and a choreographer for “Amidst the Clatter.”
Freshman dance major Cadence Carr said that Last Chance to Dance gives the opportunity to dance majors and minors to showcase their imagination and choreography skills.
“It allows us as dancers to adapt to someone else’s choreography and try new things,” Carr said.
Fellow freshman Abby Harper said the event has allowed her to make closer connections to her peers and provided her with a deeper understanding of student choreography, as posted on the dance program’s Instagram.
Tickets for the concert can be purchased online through the Fine Arts Box Office for $5 up until Friday, Dec. 1. All other tickets will need to be purchased at the door and will be cash only. There is no assigned seating for this event.
Last Chance to Dance will occur again at the end of the spring 2024 semester.
