WKU Womens Basketball will look to step into second place in conference play when they travel to Miami, Florida to play the FIU Panthers.

After dropping a game less than a week ago to New Mexico State, the Lady Toppers rebounded, defeating UTEP in a thriller at home. WKU now sits at 13-7 (4-1 CUSA) with an opportunity to pass FIU the in C-USA standings.

FIU is 13-5 (4-0 CUSA) and sits only a half game in front of WKU for second place, with Middle Tennessee State in first.

The Panthers are led by sophomore forward Mya Kone, who averages 11.9 points per game and 7.7 rebounds per game.  She had 14 points and nine rebounds in FIU’s last game against Liberty.  Her partner, senior forward Ajae Yoakum, averages 10.5 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per game. FIU averages 71.50 points per game as a team while allowing almost 10 points per game less to opponents.

The Lady Toppers will have to play dominant defense to defeat the Panthers high-powered offense.  Multiple players average over a steal a game, like junior guard Alexis Mead, who averages two a game along with 10.7 points.  WKU holds teams to just 61.8 points per game, forcing 20.2 turnovers per game, (11.1 steals per game) which will be crucial in taking down FIU.

The Lady Toppers and Panthers will tip-off tonight at 6 p.m. CT.  It can be watched on ESPN+
