WKU Baseball dropped its first midweek game of the year Feb. 27, to the University of Kentucky, 5-0.

The loss broke a three-game winning streak for the Hilltoppers and brought their record to 6-3 on the season.

The Hilltoppers had a tough time at the plate against the Wildcats as they only managed to record three hits.

WKU’s relievers were the highlight of the game for the team. Relievers covered five and a third innings for the Hilltoppers and allowed only two runs.

UK began the scoring in the third inning, taking a 3-0 lead on a bases loaded HBP, a run-scoring groundout and a sac fly.

The Wildcats added runs on a wild pitch in the fourth and a solo homer in the sixth to claim a 5-0 victory.

The loss brings WKU’s all-time record to 12-12 against the Wildcats. UK has won nine of the last ten contests against the Hilltoppers.

WKU will return to Nick Denes Field March 1-3 to take on West Virginia University in a four-game series.
